Says Anon my favorite swimsuit: “Here’s a confession: I was very revolving around when stores started using more regular bodies in their ads. I told myself it seemed too strenuous and patronizing to me, but really it was my hatred of my own body that manifested itself in the knee twitch reaction: I didn’t want to see the jerky pieces. At any time.
“But seeing different bodies in swimsuits and active clothing over and over and over again as you navigate different sites, AT THE END OF THE MONTH these bodies (and MY OWN) seemed to feel very normal and even good / desirable nice. I know it’s an idea (and vice versa – that I’ve been looking at all those perfect bodies for so long because I hated my body). Still, it’s a remarkable sense of how powerful these images really are.
For years I wore a boring swimsuit with a full cover (with belly control) from Lands’ End, plus a men’s XL oxford as a cover-up, and now, for the first time since high school, I think, ‘Should I order that bikini?’ “
