Advantages of connecting with nature

Ever since I moved to Austin I have noticed that my cortisol has dropped. Austin has the most ‘mother earth’ energy and staying here gives me a lot of clarity. I can only connect with nature much more than I ever could while I was in Los Angeles.

COVID and quarantine have made people realize how important going out and being in nature is for their soul. For me, I can’t be an effective mother, wife or entrepreneur if I don’t go out.

Everything from outdoor yoga, grounding, conference calls while walking, swimming in the lake or our pool — Austin is a city based on nature.

However, you do not have to be in a certain city to be in nature. There are many different tips and tricks for going out with your family (and children). Let’s go immediately to the benefits of connecting with nature and how to do it:

Advantages of connecting with nature:

It helps the nervous system

♡ Good for eyesight

♡ increases energy

♡ Improves memory

♡ regulates emotions

♡ reduces cortisol (stress hormone)

♡ Increases creativity

♡ Increases attention with 5 senses

♡ increases gratitude and appreciation { via }

5 best ways to connect with nature:

Touch the tree

This might sound so random, but Michael is 1/4 Japanese and in Japanese culture they are great at touching and hugging trees. It is extremely well founded. Today it is known as forest bathing and has been proven to lower heart rate and blood pressure. It is also good for the immune system and reduces stress.

According to this source, hugging trees releases oxytocin which is a hormone responsible for feelings of calm and emotional connection. It is also stated that hugging a tree is really good for children, emotionally and cognitively.

I know it sounds a bit hippie, but I always go out with Zaz and we touch wood together. The benefits are insane and I saw first hand how soothing it is.

♡ grounding and grounding base

So … grounding is like walking, but you have to be barefoot. Suffer me…

Grounding, or “grounding,” whatever you call it, absolutely changed the game for me.

First, let’s start with this question: when was the last time you allowed your bare feet to touch the right ground? Not your marble or wooden floor or your carpet. I’m not even talking about your balcony. Real land – grass, sand, beach. 99% of people can’t even remember.

Basically, the theory of grounding is that our body should have contact with the ground as much as possible (as without shoes). Electrons in the form of free radicals (fuj-sa wifi) accumulate in us and direct contact with the earth balances this with the opposite effect. It used to happen naturally because we didn’t wear shoes … now we have to do it … But let’s dive deep.

Let’s learn:

So, basically, it allows your skin to touch the ions of the earth. My absolutely favorite way to do this is by putting my feet in the sand. You should know that I even do this with my daughter. I will take her small legs and arms and make sure they touch the ground as often as possible.

How to ground:

++ Go outside and put your feet in grass, sand or dirt.

++ Grounding pad.

The grounding I have is next to it HealthyLine. Basically, this rug provides hot stone therapy, far infrared therapy, negative ion therapy and photon light therapy. You wrap it around your body and the crushed amethysts provide a calming effect. Amethyst emits a strong and constant flow of negative ions and promotes well-being and a generally better quality of life.

The benefits of negative ions are unreal: it purifies your environment, suppresses positive ion disorders (toxins, chemicals), attracts harmful particles into the air and pulls them to the ground, helps detoxify excess waste in your body, cleanses your mind.

Anyway, like I thought, the rug has a ton other therapies which are so useful. Crystal ions make you feel magical.

This rug It’s a little expensive so I have a code for you guys! It’s an investment, but if you’re into wellness, you have to have it. You can use the code THESKINNY10GIFT for a 10% discount, free shipping and a free gift.

It is the perfect mat for meditation or work Wim Hof is breathtaking. This is actually the recommendation of my San Diego facialist, Mo. @ heal.theygoddess. She has it on her face bed so clients get this grounding energy when they go to bed. If you are an ethicist or masseur, this is a great idea.

You can also put it under the sheets at home for all the benefits of grounding.

Advantages of grounding:

Reduces inflammation.

♡ Improves sleep.

Improves immunity.

♡ Reduces some factors of cardiovascular diseases.

♡ Reduces pain.

Accelerates healing time.

It helps with menstrual cramps.

Reduces electric fields induced on the body.

♡ Improves glucose regulation.

♡ Reduces the indicators of osteoporosis.

Reduces anxiety and depression.

♡ Supports the health of the adrenal glands.

It can really cure a hangover. lol

♡ Conference calls while walking

Working outside, while walking and moving your body, surrounded by trees is a good way to passively perform multiple tasks. If you haven’t heard of this before, do something productive and something passive at the same time.

Examples of passive multitasking: listening to an educational podcast while folding laundry, replying to email while walking on the treadmill, returning DMs while on foot bath– You understand.

Exercise outside

Lately, I’ve been taking out a yoga mat outside and practicing there. If you can’t exercise outside (maybe it’s too hot or too cold), try exercising near a window.

The gym I go to is a very ‘open’ space around my windows so you can see nature and it makes a big difference, I tell you.

The same thing applies to meditation. If you can’t or don’t want to meditate outside, choose a space in your home where you’ll get a little natural light. For more tips on setting up your meditation station, spy on this post. We dived deep into the whole atmosphere of my meditation space in Austin. Consider: the best fog, sound bowls and neutral fabrics.

♡ swimming, saunas and The Cold Plunge

Latley, we spend a lot of time in the pool because Zaza is obsessed. Also, Melissa Wood has this 19-minute pool workout that’s so good for your ass. Transcendental meditation is also very nice to do in water.

Being in the pool is a way to be in nature, have time for yourself, time with your daughter and exercise. Well into that now.

Note: if you just got a tan, wait 3 days to go for a swim so you don’t get all your complexion fucked up.

Outdoor sauna barrels are also something I love. I believe most are made of cedar and MUST BE OUTDOORS. Indoor saunas for me always smell like rough feet. I can’t explain it, but I’m just not a fan of indoor saunas.

Saunas flush out toxins, help cleanse the skin, are good for circulation, help with sleep, can help in recovery after training and relieve stress. Yes plz.

Okay, and now one of the most energetic things I’ve loved lately. The Cold Plunge. Our cold dive is in our house, but I’m thinking about getting it outside as well. The thought of going out in the open really moves me.

Cold Plunge is another investment in your wellness, so Ryan, the founder, gave all TSC readers a $ 100 discount with the SKINNYPLUNGE code on

Advantages of cold diving:

Accelerates muscle recovery and injury

Reduces inflammation

Supports a healthy immune system

♡ Improves lymphatic circulation

It increases the number of red blood cells and the level of growth hormone

Improves endurance and recovery

♡ Increases the health of the cardiovascular system

Improves sleep and reduces stress

♡ More benefits are revealed

So here it is. All the ways you can get out on earth and connect with nature. I would love to know the creative ways you create space to go out on a daily basis.

Nothing is perfect and no day is exactly the same. All parents know that when a baby comes you have to find pockets of time to take care of yourself. Touch a tree, put your feet in the sand, jump into a lake, whatever.

OH !! Speaking of feet in the sand … I was just on Tea with publicity podcast & Alyssa said she can never come to the beach because of life in New York. I told her to take the cat box, go to her parents ’house on the beach, fill it with sand and keep it under the table so her feet could be in it while she works. LOL. As you can see, we are getting creative here. Do what suits you.

If all else fails, turn on the sounds of nature on the speakers. It is meditative and sounds so beautiful. It’s such a nice sound to wake up to.

Peace, love and trees,

x, lauryn

+ if you like meditation, take a look at my favorite sound bowls.
