The ceiling of seven-year-old Anton’s bedroom looks pretty normal at first …
Until you turn off the lights, when the whole universe seems to be above you. You could camp in the desert or lie in a canoe in the middle of Lake Vermont. The stars are so beautiful, sometimes we just lie down and watch them.
My aunt Lulu sent a packet of shining stars in the dark Anton for Christmas. What makes them so much cooler than ordinary bright stars is how small they are. They look so real.
We could give Toby a present for his birthday later this month. And maybe for Alex and my bedroom – I mean, life is short, right? Shouldn’t we all fall asleep under the stars?
PS A children’s book I’m still thinking about, i Toby and Anton in conversation.
