Aquin’s family did not want him or his parents to be buried in the National Heroes Cemetery, where past presidents and top officials, including dictator Ferdinand Marcos, rested. Aquino’s mother and his murdered father, an opposition senator against Marcos, helped lead the resistance that sparked an uprising of “people’s power” backed by the army in 1986, which overthrew Marcos.
