The entire Indian Organization of Chemists and Drugs called on the government on Thursday to consider chemists and 9.4 lakh staff as the most important duties and to give them priority in vaccination against Covid-19.
In a statement released Thursday, the organization said that despite their repeated appeal, the government has so far not complied with their request for priority vaccination.
If they continue to ignore them, they will have no other options but to join the lock in protest as well as save their own lives.
Regardless of the dangers, every chemist in the country continuously provides services. The dispensing and distribution of medicines is no less important than doctors, hospital staff nurses and health workers, AIOCD President JS Shinde and Secretary General Rajiv Singhal said in a statement.
They claimed that since March last year, more than 650 chemists and pharmacists have lost their lives due to Covid infection. Chemists, pharmacists and their staff are most susceptible to infections because they communicate closely with patients at counters.
