Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), the oldest corporation in India, announced on Friday the launch of a dedicated WhatsApp communication system to help citizens make inquiries and complaints about day-to-day activities.
In a press release, the civic body said, citizens can simply send greetings to the official WhatsApp number of GCC +91 94999 33644 to express their concerns and seek early solutions. The WhatsApp communication system is currently available in English and Tamil.
“With this integration of the WhatsApp communication system, GCC wants to facilitate fast and efficient communication between the administration and the public. This WhatsApp-based automatic complaint registration system will also allow citizens to track the progress of registered complaints in real time. It will also pave the way for the flow of information on important announcements, updates, periodic events and helplines, ”the statement added.
“Given the ubiquitous nature of the WhatsApp platform, the exchange of information with citizens has become extremely convenient and fast. We will continue to build such initiatives to serve our citizens more effectively and thank WhatsApp for helping to activate these innovative citizen-oriented services, ”G Prakash, Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner, was quoted as saying in a statement.
“In due course, the service will also include critical information on the modalities of introducing the vaccine in Chennai for users,” the GCC said.
