How does Chris Godwin’s advanced statistics for 2020 compare to other broad receivers?

This section compares his advanced statistics with players in the same position. The line represents the percentile rank of the player. For example, if the bar is halfway, the player falls into the 50th percentile for that metric and that would be considered average. The longer the bar, the better for the player.

How does measurable Chris Godwin compare to other wide receivers?

This section compares his draft training metrics with players in the same position. The line represents the percentile rank of the player. For example, if the bar is halfway, the player falls into the 50th percentile for that metric and that would be considered average.

Godwin has had a monster season in every way despite missing the last two games of 2019 with a tendon injury. At just 121 targets he put the line 86-1,333-9, leading the receivers with 100 targets with 11.0 YPT. (Kenny Golladay was a distant second in 10.3). Godwin didn’t catch a lot of deep balls (three grabs of 40 or more), but led the league with 25 catches of 20 or more yards in just 14 games. And while he also didn’t see much work in the red zones (14 targets, T-21), he was tied for fourth place with 10 targets within-10. As a result, only Golladay and Cooper Kupp caught more touchdowns. At 6-1, 209, Godwin is great for the slot machine, where he usually puts himself in line, and has good speed (4.42 40). He is also fast, explosive and has great hands (one drop last year). Godwin’s biggest problem is Tom Brady, who replaces the unstable but very productive Jameis Winston. While Winston led the NFL with 30 interceptions, he also had 33 TDs and 5,109 yards, making him an ideal option for the fantasy results of his receivers, although he was far smaller than that for the Buccaneers. While Brady will make fewer mistakes in his 43-year season and is likely to rely on Godwin out of place, he will also risk less, which probably means fewer big games for both Godwin and co-No. 1 Mike Evans. Moreover, if Rob Gronkowski’s non-intense narrow end stays healthy, he’ll siphon some of last year’s targets from wide receivers, especially in the red zone. But coach Bruce Arians will almost certainly have a more open attack than last year’s Patriots who are exhausted by receivers, and the top-notch, 24-year-old Godwin should be in line for another big season, especially if Brady strikes short, quick throws like him did last several years.

Few players have had a better off-season than Godwin – at least in terms of their fantastic looks. DeSean Jackson (74 targets) and Adam Humphries (105) also left, and were replaced only by Breshad Perriman, a 2015 first-round athletic pick who never got caught in the league. Moreover, GM Jason Licht compared Godwin’s upcoming role to Larry Fitzgeralds, hinting at many angles and goals that befell Humphries last year. Finally, head coach Dirk Koetter is no more, he has been replaced by the more aggressive Bruce Arians, although last year’s offensive coordinator and player playing from the game Todd Monken could miss out. At 6-1, 209, Godwin has an above-average size to move at a speed of 4.42. He averaged a strong 8.9 YPT and 14.3 YPC on 95 goals a year ago and dropped just two assists throughout the season. Mike Evans is still the main target of the team and probably a pig from the red zone, and rising star TE OJ Howard will play for big games and look around the goal line. But Jameis Winston will throw the ball in Arians ’exaggerated attack, and Godwin should set his career high on targets.

After doing nothing in the first eight games of his career, Godwin saw increased work in the second half of the rookie season, and the results were promising – 15.4 YPC, 9.5 YPT. From week 10 to week 17, he had four games of 68 yards or more and showed the ability to stretch the field. Godwin exploded 111 yards and by falling in week 17, he exceeded 10 targets for the second time. With 6-1, 209 and a speed of 4.42, Godwin is bigger and faster than most passes, and at the same time he is fast and athletic. The biggest issue for Godwin is the presence of Mike Evans who is ingrained as the team’s target pig, along with DeSean Jackson who is still the fastest on the team and his most dangerous deep threat. But Bucks CEO Jason Licht pointed out that Godwin has shown enough to push for a bigger role, and the team has been complaining about Godwin at the OTAs, so there’s a good chance he’ll replace player Adam Hamphries in three broad formations. Just keep in mind that the attack against Tampa Bay is likely to be fought in September, as Jameis Winston will be suspended for the first three weeks due to games against the Saints, Eagles and Steelers.

Godwin had a chance to see the targets sooner rather than later in the third round of the Buccaneers menu. The Bucks ’recruiting team is deeper than it was last year, with the addition of DeSean Jackson, but Jackson’s mild frame prevents him from ever being a player of large volume, and Mike Evans can’t see all of Jameis Winston’s other goals. Enter Godwin, who with 6-1, 205 has a decent size and a good (4.42 40) speed. He also put on a show at the NFL Combine – a 36-inch vertical and a 126-inch wide jump. Godwin has excellent hands and good ball skills, and this season he trained with former Lyon Calvin Johnson to work on finer points in his game. Godwin will likely be third on the WR team – although he will have to beat veteran Adam Humphries – and both close ends, OJ Howard and Cameron Brate, will also see the look.
