Clothing Week: Cheryl Sparks

Life in Rhode Island, Cheryl Sparks she describes herself as a “true New Englishwoman” as well as “the widow, mother and grandmother of the most amazing boy”. When the pandemic hit and Cheryl found herself alone at home, she opened an Instagram account to share her clothes “with the goal of looking” withdrawn “at least one day a week.” Here are five items of clothing she loves …

Up: Dress: Goal. Glasses: Anne and Valentin. Necklace: Kenneth Lane, similar. Shoes: Zara, similar.

“At first, I just painted my clothes and sent them to my daughter Alexandra, saying, ‘What do you think?’ How about this? ‘Someone suggested I open an Instagram account and Alexandra said,‘ Why not? We could do it together. ‘It really brought us closer. I write the captions – she half of them, haha. I’ll put on her clothes and show her. She’s very pregnant right now, and sometimes she’ll say, ‘Oh, wow, all those clothes – as soon as I’m done with the pregnancy, I want her.’ Another time he will say, ‘No way, not those shoes. Where did you get them at all ?! ‘

Shirt: KMJ (the sample was chosen by Cheryl, and the KMJ adapted to their quarantine style!). Jeans: River Island.

“I find it hard to describe my style. Part of me wants to say “classic” – but somehow, when I think classic, I mean suffocating. The first person I idolized as a child was Ali MacGraw. She is one of hashtags I follow on Instagram. She’s just stunning – I mean now. I love having white hair like mine. It’s nice to watch her evolve. ”

Blouse: Doen. Pants: Doen. Sneakers: cariuma.

“During my career as a dental hygienist, I wore a uniform and did not have to worry about work clothes. So I was able to buy some non-working clothes that I loved, like this top. (It looks like something you’d find in the attic and seems so light, like a handkerchief.) Now I’m working with Star Kids Scholarship Program, an educational nonprofit that supports at-risk children and helps care for their nearly two-year-old grandson. My next grandchild should be this fall! “

Dress: Madewell. Sandals: Goal.

“You know that Neapolitan dress that’s all over Instagram? It feels like a dress of minutes, hours, years. But … I mean, I’m 65 years old. And I felt too precious. Then I saw this dress from Madewell and I thought, you know, it’s similar in style, but it doesn’t look precious. It has pockets, it’s calloused, it’s so comfortable – I can’t recommend it enough. ”

Shirt: J.Crew,, similar. Belt: J. Crew. Pants: Zara, similar.

“Stripes are my weakness. My whole house is covered with them. I grew up in rugby shirts like this, borrowed from friends and boys. Wearing the clothes I love is fun for me. I take care of myself – I wake up in the morning, I get dressed – it brings me joy. “
