Indian daily Covid-19 cases were below the 1 lakh limit for the third day in a row on Thursday, but witnessed a record increase in deaths recorded as Bihar revised the number of its deaths following orders from the High Court in Patna. The death toll reported on Thursday was 6,148.
The state has reported 94,052 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed cases to date at 2,91,83,121. Cumulative mortality from Covid-19 climbed to 3.59,676.
Bihar’s death toll in Covid increased by 3,971 to 9,429 deaths, up 71 percent from Wednesday, after the Patna High Court noted irregularities in the registration of deaths due to Covid. However, it is still unclear when these deaths occurred in 38 counties, but a break is also available.
Meanwhile, the Indian Council for Medical Research and Drugs for Neglected Diseases will jointly conduct multicenter randomized trials on the safety and efficacy of several therapies, including antiviral therapies, to control milder cases of Covid-19, the statement said.
The active number of cases in the country has been steadily declining and now stands at 11,67,952 on Thursday. Meanwhile, daily recoveries in India are still more numerous than daily fresh cases over four weeks, and 1.51,367 recoveries have been recorded in the last 24 hours.
In addition, more than 20 relief tests were conducted on Wednesday, bringing the total tests to 37.21 crore since the start of the pandemic.
Furthermore, India administered over 24.27 crore doses of the vaccine with 33.79,261 injections in the last 24 hours until Thursday morning. In the phase 3 vaccination campaign for the age group of 18 to 44, 3,39,45,647 users received the first dose, while 4,07,151 users received other injections, according to government data.
