At least eight people were killed and another was injured in a series of shootings in three spas in Atlanta, Ga., On Tuesday, and one suspect was detained, several news outlets reported.
It is unclear whether all three incidents that occurred within a few hours are related.
Announced Cherokee County Sheriff Robert Aaron Long, a 21-year-old white man, was arrested around 8:30 p.m. local time after a chase that took officers to Crisp County – about three hours from the scene of the first shooting at a massage parlor, WSB TV reported.
The Associated Press says Long seems they look similar to surveillance images posted by Cherokee County MPs.
Jay Baker of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said when officers arrived With Young’s Asian massage, two victims were already dead and three more were alive, 11Alive reported. The wounded were rushed to a local hospital, but two died in the meantime. The surviving victim is the only man shot in the incident, officials said.
The names of the four victims killed at Young’s Asian massage, as well as the person injured, were not released by authorities.
About an hour after that shooting, Atlanta police officers were called to respond to an ongoing robbery at the Gold Spa. There they discovered the bodies of three women who had been fatally shot. Moments later, police officers were called to another shooting across the street in another spa – the Aromatherapy Spa – another woman was found dead in a gunshot wound.
Authorities said many of the victims appeared to be women of Asian descent.
