India continued to report more than 4 easy Covid cases daily with as many as 4,03,738 people on positive tests over the last 24 hours until Sunday morning, taking the total number of active cases in the country at 37,36,648. In the same period, 4,092 succumbed to viral infection, taking the total number of deaths due to Covid-19 to 2.42,362. The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in India is close to 2.23 crore, of which over 1.83 crore has been recovered to date.
According to data released by the health ministry on Sunday, 10 states reported 71.75 per cent of new cases, with Maharashtra recording the highest daily number of new cases with 56,578, followed by Karnataka with 47,563 and Kerala with 41,971 new cases.
The number of active cases in the country is among the largest in the world. In terms of the total number of reported cases, India is second only to the United States, and recently surpassed Brazil in the number of deaths due to coronavirus infection, according to the dashboard of the Covid-19 Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University .
The government has provided 17.56 crore anti-Covid stings free of charge to states, of which total consumption, including waste, is 16,83,78,796 doses, according to the ministry. “More than 72 doses of Covid vaccine against Covid (72,42,014) are still available in the countries / unusable viruses to be administered. “Countries with a negative balance show higher consumption (including wastage) of vaccines because they have not reconciled the vaccine they delivered to the armed forces,” the statement said on Sunday. In the 18-44 age group, 2,949,912 users received the first dose of COVID vaccine today and a cumulative 17,84,869 in 30 states / independent states in the last 24 hours. The government has opened vaccinations for people between the ages of 18 and 44 as of May 1 as part of its liberalized phase 3 vaccination campaign.
“In total, more than 30.22 crore tests have been conducted so far nationwide, while the daily positivity rate is 21.64 percent,” the government said. In the meantime, a total of 18,65,428 tests were performed during the previous day.
The government said Sunday that the global aid it received was in the fight against the pandemic. The main shipments received by the state on May 8 are from Canada, Thailand, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, Israel, the US, Japan, Malaysia, the US (GILEAD), the US (Salesforce) and the Indian community in Thailand. The items contained oxygen concentrators (2,404), remdesivir bottles (25,000), fans (218), and test kits (6,92,208).
Mucormycosis advice
Meanwhile, the government has also published advice on treating mucormycosis, a fungal disease that affects people being treated for other health problems. The disease, which can be fatal if left untreated, is commonly found in patients with Covid-19 who have comorbidities, prolonged stay on ICU, and take immunosuppressants as part of treatment. In addition to a list of doses and donuts for such patients, the advice provided detailed clinical guidelines for the management of medical professionals.
