Giant tortoise filmed attacking and killing a bird – video Surroundings

The giant tortoise from the Seychelles, a species previously thought to be a strict herbivore, was filmed chasing and eating a bird. Researchers say it was the first documented example of deliberate hunting in the wild by a species.

The video, taken on Frigate Island in July 2020, shows a female giant tortoise slowly stalking a smaller bird with a tern, unsuccessfully shooting at it before delivering a deadly blow by squeezing its jaws directly around its head.
