Israel initially offered the vaccinated residents a “green card” – state documentation indicating that they had been fully vaccinated. Pass holders could easily access restaurants, clubs, gyms, weddings and other venues, while those who did not have to frequently pass coronavirus tests to enter. Public adherence to the system, however, has waned over time, and Israel lifted the green card this month, and few people in the highly vaccinated country wore masks or took other precautions against the virus.
