Israel will give the Palestinians up to 1.4 million doses of the Covid vaccine

Israel and the Palestinian Authority have agreed to exchange for over a million doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine, according to a joint announcement by the Israeli prime minister’s office, the health ministry and the defense ministry.

Under the terms of the agreement, Israel will transfer between 1 and 1.4 million doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine to the Palestinian Authority, which will expire soon, in exchange for a shipment of Pfizer vaccine doses to be delivered to the Palestinian Authority this year. September-October 2021

Negotiations on such an agreement have been going on for the past few months, but the decision to continue on the issue has been suspended by the previous government. Israel has previously given the Palestinian Authority several thousand doses of vaccines for medical teams and vaccinated over 100,000 Palestinians working in Israel.

Israel has conducted one of the world’s most successful vaccination programs against Covid-19 with 5.5 million citizens vaccinated, including 5.15 million with two injections. As a result, only a few new cases of Covid-19 are diagnosed daily. However, Israel has met with international criticism for failing to extend its vaccination campaign to Palestinians.

A source from the defense told “Globes” that the agreement on vaccination agreed had an element of good will and symbolizes the readiness of the new Israeli government to improve the lives of Palestinians.
