Announced by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the Singapore Standards Council (SSC) today (September 3) Improving provisional national standards to ensure the safe deployment of fully autonomous vehicles (AV) in Singapore.

The Enhanced Standards, Technical Reference (TR) 68, has been updated with new guidelines on machine learning applications, software update management, cyber security principles, and a testing framework.

In a joint press release, LTA and SSC stated that these new updates will accelerate the launch of AVs along with recent advances in technology.

With the new TR 68, driverless vehicles in Singapore can smoothly transition from development phases to road use.

“It also provides updated safety guidelines for testing AV solutions on the roads in Singapore. In order to facilitate the joint creation of smart mobility solutions and improve the interoperability of AV among different service providers, the revised standards include updating data types and formats, ”they added.

These improvements come after a review conducted between March 2020 and July 2021, managed by Enterprise Singapore. The audit was led by four groups appointed by the SSC and supported by the LTA.

New TR 68 to support the AV ecosystem in Singapore

TR serves as a guide for industry players in implementing AV solutions, helping to develop local AV startup ecosystems, SMEs, and testing inspection and certification service providers.

To facilitate the effective understanding and implementation of TR 68, the Singapore Manufacturing Federation – Standards Development Organization will hold a workshop for companies in October.

Since its first publication in 2019, over 68 companies have joined TR 68.

The updated TR 68 is available for purchase according to Singapore Standards webstore in four parts – basic behavior, security, cyber security principles and assessment framework, and vehicle data types and formats – and cost a total of $ 342.70.
