“Maybe young people listen to what they are told” – Wahab Riaz dissatisfied with ignoring older people from Pakistan

Pakistani fast bowler Wahab Riaz was left disappointed after being overlooked on upcoming tours of England and the West Indies. This led him to question the thought process of the selection committee.

Pakistan should play three T20Is and as many ODIs against England before fighting West India in five T20Is and two tests. The 36-year-old Riaz cast doubt on the selection criteria after being ignored for all three formats.

“I’m obviously disappointed with the exclusion from touring in England and the West Indies after my recent performances. But the selection criteria are a question for the election commission, but I think we should choose the one who performed well. They may have their reasons, but as a senior performer I am disappointed that I missed it, ”Wahab Riaz told the media in Lahore.

Riaz led Peshawar Zalmi to second place in the recently concluded Pakistani Super League (PSL). He also finished the tournament as the second tallest player with 18 scalps below the belt and was selected to the tournament team. Naturally, he is full of self-confidence and hopes to play T20 World Cup in October-November this year.

“I haven’t given up hope of playing in the World T20 this year and I think senior players, as long as they’re in shape and should be performing, should be considered for selection,” Riaz, who took 34 goalkeepers at a strike rate of 20, 88 in 36 T20I, added.

The selection has been a stumbling block in the Pakistani cricket lately. The committee led by Muhammad Wasim became famous for ignoring senior professionals like Wahab Riaz, Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Amir, among others. Riaz also hinted at the inability of the administration to overpower the elderly in the way it treats recruits.

“I don’t know exactly what problem people have with older players. Maybe young people listen to what they are told, while older people always have their opinion in things and you have to convince them “, concluded Wahab Riaz.

Significantly, versatile Imad Wasim earned the call in the shortest format after being omitted from the previous three tasks.
