After two seasons stuck on a bench in San Francisco, Davis traveled along the coast to Seattle in 2017 and recorded a slight increase in opportunities in the hinterland that was still trying to replace Marshawn Lynch. Despite the addition of Premier League side Rashaad Penny and the appearance of Chris Carson, Davis finally got his chance in the 4th week of 2018, firing 101 yards and two TDs on 21 races against the Cardinals. Although it was ultimately his brand of water of the year, Davis was an effective part of the Seahawks ’new board, which ran with power and flashed upside down like a receiver for the first time since his student days. His performance was earned by a free agent in Chicago, where he will potentially jump in as a new addition to Tariq Cohen instead of Jordan Howard. Davis offers more versatility than Howard, without much loss of efficiency in early falls or in short yard places. Of course, the team also added David Montgomery in the third round of the draft, and the rookie will be competing for many of the same moments as Davis. Despite the change of uniform and a two-year contract worth 6 million dollars, the prospects during the game did not improve that much.

Knocked out in the final pre-season of the 49ers, Davis ended up in the Seahawks training camp and eventually in their roster. He played six games and didn’t do anything too noteworthy, as his mediocre 3.5 YPC score was still high in his career. The selection in the fourth round of 2015 has the framework that Seattle is looking for in the 5-9, 217 run, and in college in South Carolina he showed a triple upside down, but those skills are little evidence since he became a professional. The team devoted a lot of time to Rashaad Penny in the draft and brought back last year’s starter in Week 1 in Chris Carson, so Davis only seems to be tied to a depth role if he retains the spot. He caught 15 career passes last season, and could also play the occasional third-down role if he proves to be the back most capable of protecting Russell Wilson from the blitz.

Davis, a former fourth-round selection, joined the Seahawks in a season after spending last season with rival rivals San Francisco. In the past two seasons with the 49ers, Davis has recorded 108 yards and one touch on 54 attempts to get along with 10 receptions at 53 yards in 14 games. He will now struggle with a collection of young talent to secure a reserve spot in the back field of Seattle. Davis lacks experience that could hurt his chances, but his ability to catch passing from the back could help him secure the bottom of the 2017 depth chart.

Deep down in his beginner campaign, Davis achieved disappointing results with 1.7 YPC in 35 chase attempts. To add to the injury, he suffered a hand injury and missed a good part of the season. He entered the training camp looking faster, and the results showed in his first two preseason games where he won 98 yards in just 10 runs. A strong start made Davis a likely candidate to create a team as a third or fourth runner backwards.

The 49ers picked Davis from South Carolina in the fourth round of this season. At a height of 9 feet, Davis may not seem like a north-south runner, but his 220-pound frame and low center of gravity give him the ability to break through between points. He is currently behind Carlos Hyde, Reggie Bush and Kendall Hunter on the depth chart, but strong training camps and preseason could force him to skip Bush or Hunter. Davis is also best suited for the full back if Hyde falls with an injury this season.
