my morning routine
Leslie Santijanna
senior manager, product development, goop
“Glow Lotion is my new major discharge,” says thirty-four-year-old Santianna from headquarters in Manhattan Beach, whose background is skin biology and chemistry. “My skin drinks it – it contains everything I need in a moisturizer, including the super effective THD version of vitamin C, which I love.” It has helped develop multitasking, your skin, but a more radiant treatment, from concept to finished product. “We saw a white space for a clean, active moisturizer that is light enough to work for all different skin types and has strong drinks with great benefits,” she says. “In the short term, you get really amazing, dewy, shiny skin, and those results make you want to use it every day – and of course, when you do, you’ll get the main long-term benefits: lighter, smoother, wetter, healthier-looking skin. “
The ingredients and the way they work together delighted Santiana the most. “We got this interesting combination of amino acid derivatives that has been clinically tested to work synergistically with THD,” she says. “The two ingredients support each other to be more effective and long-lasting.” Then from the algae spirulina come an enzyme and light-collecting proteins that help protect the skin from a wide range of aggressive lights, including sunlight and blue light. “It doesn’t protect like SPF or even an antioxidant,” she says. “It solves the problem from a different angle – you should do all three.” For antioxidant protection, she notes, the formula is made with a powerful: Australian cockatoo plum.
Since she started working from home a year ago, Santianna’s schedule has evolved to include both a morning and night routine to help her set up healthy boundaries. “It was crucial,” she says. “Opening a laptop can be so simple and easy to start dealing with email in the morning, but it seems to almost always lead to burnout. I’m more of a night owl, but I’ve forced myself to be a morning person because I find mornings to be the most productive time of the day – my mind is still fresh. To keep her skin as fresh as an infinitely inventive mind, she has a few secrets for morning skin care up her sleeve. “Of course I’m biased,” she says. “But try a combination of our vitamin C serum and glow lotion every day and tell me that you don’t see much difference! “
6:30: I usually wake up before the alarm goes off. My dog starts to move and become restless in bed, so I get up and take her for a brisk walk.
7:00: I’m going for a morning run on the beach. I feel very happy to live near the ocean – running along the beach is really relaxing.
8:00: After I picked up the endorphins, I took a shower. At that time, I usually go through a mental list. Almost every day I use one of my favorite products we make, our Himalayan salt hair scrub. You should only use it two or three times a week, but my hair is on the greasy side and it works so well for me. There is this great build up of mousse and it leaves my hair clean but not creaky clean or bare. The five-salt body scrub leaves my skin so hydrated and soft afterwards that I rarely need a body lotion. And since I love a good scrub, I do Microderm in the shower a few days a week. Yes looove this special formula – the results and the way it feels. I look forward to the days when I use it.

8:15: When I go out and my skin is beautiful and clean, I do a quick self-care (as opposed to makeup), focused on looks and refreshments by focusing on my skin. I feel ready for Zoom meetings, without much fuss.
Vitamin C is my first step, because I love how my skin looks after use. I use it in the morning and evening to even out skin tone and leave it brighter, softer and smoother. This formula is made from another type of vitamin C, L-ascorbic acid, because it is a water-based formula (Glow Lotion uses THD, which is soluble in oil). Use both and I tell you: It’s the ultimate combination of glitter.
I smooth out this eye cream (this may sound weird, but sometimes I also use it as a night cream), and then I curl my lashes which are naturally straight and barely visible. The combination of eye cream and curling lashes changes everything for me: my eyes look more alert and refreshed than they look after a solid eight hours.
After this it moves on to Glow Lotion – it’s just the best daily moisturizer and has that THD version of vitamin C, which is hydrating and long lasting. I love the shine I get right away and the results that build over time.

Lastly, I like to smooth out a little lip shade to bring a little more life to my face, put on gold hoops – I love the way they elevate what I wear and make any outfit look more expensive – and spritz on a small goop edition 4 – Orchard. It has notes of apricot, hay and earth, and I wear it all year round. It is beautiful, challenging and uplifting. I like to use scents that comfort and take me to a place of good vibes.

8:30: If I have the time – which honestly isn’t often enough – I’ll make myself a berry smoothie or toast with peanut butter or avocado. The rest of the day can be pretty busy, so I refuel while I can, usually with a tall glass of water with lemon. Then they start racing!
