Fernando Tatis Jr. added juice to the Padres-Dodgers rivalry on Saturday night by expertly trolling LA starter Trevor Bauer. Twice.
Tatis got his first chance when he led the game with a home run against a right-hander at Dodger Stadium. As Tatis passed between the first and second bases, he turned towards Padres’ dugout and. . .
Well, see for yourself:
Yes, Tatis was letting everyone know he remembered Bauer throwing with one eye closed towards the Padres at spring training.
Bauer told reporters after the trip that he was having fun and testing.
“I assumed that if I couldn’t score a goal with one eye open, it would be hard for me to score a goal with two eyes open,” he said. “I’m just having a little fun. There’s definitely a reason for that. If I wanted to share, I’d already done it.”
Tatis had something else for Bauer after he went against him again in the sixth. As Tatis crossed the home board, he mimicked Bauer’s bar, which is actually Bauer paying homage to MMA star Conor McGregor.
Tatis told reporters after the Padres ’5-4 defeat that he responded to what Bauer did to him when the teams met in San Diego last Sunday. Bauer screamed and pounded his chest in celebration after hitting Tatis.
Bauer, for his part, said it was good for him that Tatis was doing it and that the attackers were generally celebrating. Bauer’s answer to the question about Tatis begins at 43 seconds in the video below.
“I’m for it. I think it’s important that the game moves in that direction and that we stop throwing things at people because they celebrated by achieving some success on the field.” @BauerOutage at the celebration of Fernando Tatis the Younger. pic.twitter.com/RdLMAWhQVD
