WILMINGTON, NC – Three people were killed and four others were injured mass shooting which happened in Wilmington just after midnight. The shooting broke out at a house party, the Wilmington Police Department said.
The names of the deceased have not yet been released. The injured were transferred to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Police have no suspect, and the party’s circumstances and possible motives are still under investigation, said Jessica Williams, a public information officer. But police officers do not believe there is a constant danger to the public.
“This was probably not an accidental shooting, so we don’t believe in it,” the boss said.
“Our hearts are addressing all those affected by this senseless violence and we ask that all who have information about this incident report to find justice,” Williams said.
On Saturday morning, a family member connected to one of the victims arrived to lay flowers at the door where the shooting took place. The police tape was removed from the scene.
The incident followed three high-profile mass shootings in less than three weeks in the U.S. On Wednesday in Southern California, four victims locked in an office building died when an armed man opened fire. Just a week earlier, an gunman in Boulder, Colorado, killed 10 people in a supermarket. A week earlier, an armed assailant in the Atlanta area killed eight people, most of them are women of Asian descent, in three spas.
