specifications, features and prices of laptop realme Book in Malaysia

Those looking for a new laptop now have another choice. indeed has launched its first laptop, the Realme Book.

Prior to the release, people pointed out that it looks like a MacBook Air or a MacBook Pro. (I understand what they’re saying, but again, don’t most laptops today take on that generic design?)

Either way, functionality probably takes precedence over just aesthetics for users, so here’s what you can expect from a realme book.

3 variants will be available, and the realme Book i3 and realme Book i5 (both with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD) are available for purchase first on August 27th.

the realme Book i3 will come at a suggested retail price (RRP) of RM 2,999, while the realme Book i5 will come at a RRP of RM 3,499. Both come in 2 colors: real blue and real gray.

The third variant, the realme Book i5 (16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD) does not yet have a launch date in Malaysia, but its RRP is 3999 RM. It will come in only one color, real blue.

These 14-inch laptops have a screen-to-case ratio of 90% thanks to the thin bezels. The last laptop I tried with thin frames was Huawei MateBook D15 (2021), although the wide screen provided a great viewing experience, the compromise was the pop-up camera that shot you at a strange angle.

Fortunately, this is not the case with the realme Book, as it has a built-in 720P HD camera at the top of the screen for virtual meetings.

One of the attractions that Realme is trying to place is the 2K screen. More precisely, it boasts a resolution of 2160 x 1440 pixels. For reference, most laptops these days offer an average resolution of 1920 x 1080.

While this isn’t a big leap, you can still expect better quality and sharper images on the screen. This should make you enjoy playing, editing or watching shows.

the realme Book weighs approximately 1.38 kg (the i5 16 + 512 GB version weighs 1.48 kg), which is decently light for its size.

It runs on a large 54 Wh battery (typically) and can charge up to 50% within 30 minutes if the laptop is turned off. All in all, full billing should take users just under half a day if it doesn’t run on intensive programs. Windows 10 Home will be installed, with a free upgrade to Windows 11.

realme Book can be purchased via Shopee, SENHENG, courts and all realme authorized trade from 27 August onwards. Each purchase comes with a 2 year warranty.

It is expanding its technical repertoire

realme has so far had a host of devices under its brand, including smart TVs, smart watches, wireless headphones and, of course, smartphones.

With laptops now added to his repertoire, we’ll probably see Realme develop a more robust technology ecosystem (similar to what it does with the TechLife ecosystem, but more focused on connecting communication devices).

Did you know: realme’s TechLife ecosystem allows users to control smart light bulbs, motion sensor lights, home security cameras, smart scales and smart sockets from their phone. In May 2021, the Indian brand DIZO was announced as the first ecosystem partner brand.

With the launch of its laptop, the brand also announced a new feature called PC Connectivity that will allow users to connect their real smartphones to their real book. This means users can control their realme smartphone from the realme Book, much like Samsung Flow and Huawei’s multi-screen collaboration.

Interestingly, can Realme’s intrusion into laptops be a kind of pilot test for the eventual launch of OPPO? At the end of 2020, it was announced that the parent company had allegedly planned launch tablets and laptops also in 2021, although no more news has emerged as of today.

realme is also work on a tablet, realme Pad, although the launch date has not been confirmed either. Entering the tablet and laptop market will put Realme in further competition with Xiaomi, Huawei and Honor.

Admittedly, Realme seems to be a little late for the party, but his first laptop has already caught the eyes of fans and those who don’t adore him. If the laptop meets expectations, it would be the beginning of another lucrative sector for the brand.

Will it knock out its more experienced competition in this field? That remains to be seen.
