Manchester United are less than 24 hours away from their UEFA Europa League final against Villarreal. The Red Devils team has already landed and started training in Gdansk, Poland, on the eve of the clash, along with Sir Alex Ferguson and David Gill. Club captain Harry Maguire traveled with the team despite injuries and it is unclear whether he will participate in the final.
Ahead of the much-anticipated showdown with Unai Emery’s team, here’s a look at some of the latest Manchester United transfer news.
Tom Heaton has rejoined Manchester United
English goalkeeper Tom Heaton is allegedly on the verge of signing a reunion agreement with his former club, Manchester United, ahead of the summer window. The 35-year-old spent eight years in the books of the Red Devils and eventually moved elsewhere in search of regular football. Heaton then had six-year spells in Burnley before joining Aston Villa in 2019.
After losing his place to Amy Martinez at Villa Park, Heaton is believed to be ready to return to his boys ’club on a free transfer. His current job at Villa expires at the end of the season, and Dean Smith’s men are unwilling to offer him an extension. Heaton will provide competition to Dean Henderson and David de Gei, while Lee Grant and Sergio Romero are expected to leave the club.
Jose Mourinho wants Nemanja Matić to reunite
Newly appointed AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho is eager to meet his former player again Nemanja Matić ahead of the upcoming campaign. The Serb has played under Mourinho at both Manchester United and Chelsea, and has been strongly linked to a move to AS Roma over the past few weeks.
Reports suggest that Matic, who has a contract with Manchester United until 2023, could cost up to 10m euros. However, Giallorossi will reportedly offer an initial loan agreement with an obligation to purchase a midfielder in the summer of 2022. Roma had previously borrowed Chris Smalling for a year before buying him the following year.
