“There have been some unsubstantiated media reports about the hacking of the CoWIN platform. Prima facie, these reports appear to be false,” the Union Ministry of Health said in a statement.
The center uncovered media reports of CoWIN hacking on Thursday, stating that prima facie it seems that these reports are false and that the portal stores all vaccination data in a safe and secure digital environment.
“There have been some unsubstantiated media reports about the hacking of the CoWIN platform. Prima facie, these reports appear to be false,” the Union Ministry of Health said in a statement.
However, the ministry and the Authorized Vaccine Administration Group (EGVAC) are getting the matter being investigated by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MietY) Computer Emergency Response Team, the statement said.
Dr RS Sharma, chairman of the Authorized Vaccine Administration Group (CoWIN), explained that “our attention is drawn to the news circulating on social media about the alleged hacking of the CoWIN system. In this regard, we want to say that CoWIN stores all vaccination data in a safe and a secure digital environment. No CoWIN data is shared with any entity outside the CoWIN environment. Data that is claimed to have leaked, such as user geolocation, is not even collected in CoWIN. ”
