The Health Sciences Administration (HSA) has approved the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine for use in children between the ages of 12 and 15, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said today (May 18th).

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has announced that it will work with the Ministry of Education (MOE) on a vaccination program for this age group and provide further updates over time.

This is the first Covid-19 vaccine approved for use for this age group in Singapore. Previously, only those aged 16 and over were considered eligible for the vaccine.

Our expert commission for vaccination against COVID-19 also took into account their support. Both teams assessed that the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine showed high efficacy and safety for this age group of 12 to 15 years, which is consistent with what we observed in the adult population.

From Wednesday (May 19), all schools will move on to learning from home by the end of the May 28 deadline. The announcement came after several elementary school students tested positive for Covid-19.

From Wednesday, people aged 40 to 44 will also be invited to apply for vaccinations.

Individuals can register online through vakcina.gov.sg, and will receive a confirmation message via SMS after registration. After that, a separate SMS with a personalized booking link for booking a meeting will be sent to eligible individuals.

The MOH said individuals can expect to receive a message within one to two weeks of registration.
