Coalition parties have reached a compromise on the establishment of a Regulatory Body.

In a victory for Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman, the Knesset passed the Law on Economic Arrangements with 59 votes in favor and 54 against. After hours of talks, the coalition parties reached an agreement on the establishment of a Regulatory Body. At the suggestion of MK Eitan Ginzburg (Blue and White), a Regulatory Body will be established, but it will only be an advisory body.

The coalition parties Meretz and Labor opposed the idea of such a power, and in any case believed that such far-reaching reform should be the subject of separate legislation and not adopted as part of the law on economic arrangements that accompanies the state budget.

Under the proposed compromise, ministries will be required to consult with the new authorities on regulatory issues.

Coalition Chairman Idit Silman (Yamina) said: “Weeks of long days and nights are over – we have reached an agreement on regulation, thanks to my colleague Abir Kari and the leaders of the coalition parties and their teams. There is a budget that is good and right for the citizens of Israel. “
