In a gruesome and shocking incident, unidentified individuals at an L&T workplace in the village of Subbiyapuram, in Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu state, hacked to death an employee of a leading construction company L&T.
At that location, the company recently ordered a 100 MW solar power plant for Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Ltd.
A group of 10 unidentified armed idiots on bicycles, covered in persons, broke into the company’s office at the project location and in broad daylight cut the sickle and swords of the bookkeeper, an L&T employee. Another office worker was seriously injured at the time of the attack, the company said in a statement.
“The precious innocent life was lost and the attack on the elements of lawlessness during these uncertain and unprecedented times is absolutely shocking and unacceptable,” said director and overall executive vice president (utilities) T Madhavadas.
“We face great difficulties in carrying out projects – the challenges of relentless terrain, harsh climatic conditions, the danger of uncontrolled lawless elements, the difficulty of miles from home and loved ones – all in order to build infrastructure for the country and enrich people’s lives,” he said.
These are particularly difficult circumstances due to the strict security protocols of Covid-19 and at such a time it is sad and shocking that the company staff was attacked.
“We try to ensure the safety of our own people at our locations, but we seek the protection of the authorities and the police so that our people are safe. “Such an incident should never have happened,” he said.
Local police have arrived at the scene and an investigation is underway.
