What are your rose, thorn and bud?

Last year, since we had so many dinners in the family, we started the ancient tradition of roses, thorns, buds. Do you want to play? Here’s how it works …

Basically, everyone walks around and shares a rose (a positive thing that happened that day), a thorn (a negative thing that happened that day) and a bud (something they look forward to).

The beginner of the conversation works much better than the vague question “how was your day?” Once I read that asking your little one about their busy day at school is like asking an adult, “How has it been in the last 20 years of your life?”

I love hearing about the ups and downs of boys, like having new sympathy or dreading a scientific project (although Anton often says that his rose is a “screen of time,” a groan). Also, it’s nice to share yours, even though I’m always such a mom ™: “My rose hangs out with you !!!!!!”

So! This spring afternoon I would like to ask you: What is the rose, thorn and bud in your life right now? In general, what makes you happy, worried, and happy? I’d like to hear it. xo

PS Six ways to get kids to talk over dinner, i happiness versus wholeness.
