What little things do you like?

-My 6-year-old son wears dinosaur socks and a pink unicorn shirt: he is freer than the boys I grew up with and that gives me hope.

-I watch the dahlias I planted grow and bloom. They change a little bit every day, and then all that little, gradual change follows with a dramatic opening, like “hello bitch! It’s August and I’m phenomenal! ”

-coffee, all about it. Pulling the lever on the bonnet to decant it, my husband and I express love for each other alternately by making it, a scent, a connection to the Pacific Northwest cultural tradition

-very stretched, faded, soft as everyone comes out, an ancient black T-shirt with a neckline

-curve, tenor and general beauty of my mandolin, and also that my husband calls it my spooky villa Banjo
