When does La Liga start? Dates, format, TV and streaming for the new football season in Spain

It is the beginning of a new era for one of the best football leagues in Europe. La Liga in Spain begins its first season without Lionel Messi since 2003. But the superstar’s departure and the wage budget challenges facing giants Barcelona and Real Madrid have probably set one of the most memorable La Liga seasons in recent history.

In the 17 seasons in which Messi (Barcelona) and later Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) played in La Liga, their teams have won 15 titles. The other two went to Atletico Madrid, including last year’s championship when Atletico took advantage of the stumble of longtime favorites to finish at the top of the league table.

Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid will once again be favorites in the 2021-2022 season, but the next level of clubs will dream of taking advantage of the air spreading over La Liga and hopefully do enough to challenge for the title. The race to avoid relegation (the three lower teams go to the second league) and to qualify for European tournaments should prove just as intriguing as the battle at the top.

La Liga competition format

Each team plays with the other 19 clubs in La Liga at home and away, making 38 games. Teams are looking for three points to win, one for a draw and none for defeat.

The La Liga table is based on the total number of points accumulated in the season of 38 games. Depending on where the club ends up in the standings, that team can either win the title, earn a place in one of the three elite European club tournaments, or perhaps suffer relegation in the case of the three lowest teams.

The table is over
1st place La Liga title + UEFA Champions League place
2.-4. Place UEFA Champions League
5-6 place Mooring for the Europa League *
7th place European Conference League Venue *
8-17 place Participation in La Liga 2022-2023
18.-20. Place Relegation to second league

* = waiting for the final number of beds allocated by the European governing body, UEFA

If teams are tied by points on the ladder, there are two sets of switches used depending on the number of clubs that are at a standstill:

Offenses on the La Liga table involving two clubs:

1. Top goal difference in league matches between both teams
2. Top goal difference in all league matches
3. Most goals scored in all league games
4. Fair play point total according to the disciplinary order
5. The match is played on neutral ground (if necessary)

Offenses on the La Liga table involving three or more clubs:

1. Superior points in all matches between clubs that are tied
2. Top goal difference in all matches between clubs that are tied
3. Top goal difference in all league matches
4. Most goals scored in all league games
5. Total number of fair play points according to the disciplinary order

Which team will win La Liga 2021-2022?

American sports books and history say it will be so Real Madrid,, Atletico Madrid or Barcelona. No surprise, but the order of favorites raises an eyebrow: the defending champions, Atletico Madrid, are in no doubt despite the strengthening of the list out of season. Seville,, Real society i Villarreal the following are in line with distant hopes that they will be potentially challenging.

Chances are everywhere when it comes to the other 14 clubs, but does it really matter? None of them are considered a factor in the title race based on these futures.
