After the restaurant sold its last Happy Meal in late 2019, Guémari and other employees occupied the building.
Months later, its unlikely revival followed, as the food bank was intended for people battling a pandemic.
“I slept alone for two or three months, so as not to contaminate my family,” said Guémari, whose activism is praised in the neighborhood but has also sometimes drawn criticism.
