The indictment for Minister of Housing and Construction Yaakov Litzman (Judaism of the United Torah) will be subject to hearing. The Jerusalem District Attorney’s Office informed the minister’s attorneys today that Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit is considering indictment against him for obstruction of justice and violation of religion, subject to a hearing to be held for him if he so wishes. Litzman allegedly used his status and ministerial powers while he was deputy health minister to promote the interests of private individuals for foreign reasons and against the interests for which he is responsible.

The first affair in which Litzman is suspected is the case of Malka Leifer, whose extradition was requested by the Australian authorities in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of students at the school in Melbourne where she was the principal. Following an approach on behalf of Leifer in 2015, Litzman allegedly pressured a Jerusalem district psychiatrist to change the opinion he expressed that Leifer was mentally the first to be tried. After lengthy legal proceedings, Leifer was eventually extradited to Australia in January this year.

Another case involving Litzman concerns the catering business of Beit Yisrael, of which Litzman was a regular customer. He allegedly tried to intervene when the business faced closure due to serious hygiene deficiencies.

A statement from Litzman said: “Throughout his public life, Minister Litzman has worked on behalf of all communities and sections of the population in Israel, responding to public approaches without discrimination and only in accordance with the law. We believe in his complete innocence and welcome the decision to We will acquit Litzman of bribery charges, and Minister Litzman will prepare for a hearing at the end of which we are convinced that, with God’s help, the remaining false charges against him will be removed. “

Legal proceedings against Yaakov Litzman are at an early stage and he is entitled to the presumption of innocence.
